Coldharbour Mill

Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK having been in continuous production since 1797. Originally owned by world-renowned textile producers Fox Brothers, the Mill took fleece from all over the world and transformed it into yarn, cloth and textiles. Today the rich heritage lives on as one of the finest working wool museums where visitors are not just able to relive the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution but also see crafts men and women making traditional textiles, beautiful knitting yarn and hand woven rugs.

National Trust Properties

There are many National Trust properties in Devon more than a few of them within a short drive of South Farm, and those that are slightly further afield make for lovely day trips for interested exlporers.

Seaton wet lands

A freshwater grazing marsh, with scrapes, ditches, the Borrow Pit Pond and a bird hide.
The area attracts considerable wildlife interest, from wildfowl and wading birds in the winter to dragonflies and butterflies in the summer. Otters have been spotted at the Borrow Pit Pond!
parts of the reserve is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
The Colyford Common bird hide offers fantastic views across the upper reaches of the estuary and surrounding salt marsh. There is also a viewing platform further north which gives great views of waders such as curlew in winter.
Explore the wildlife garden and enjoy a picnic in the heart of the wetlands. Find out more about the site, hire pond dipping equipment and grab a coffee in the Discovery Hut. Open Saturday, Sunday and Monday 10am to 4pm. Site toilets located here.

Tarr Steps

Whether you are an experienced walker or someone who prefers a short stroll, Tarr Steps is a great place to go when looking to explore Exmoor National Park. You can head straight there, utilising the on site car park and toilet facilities, with just a gentle walk down to the ancient clapper bridge. The beautiful wooded valley of the River Barle is also worth exploring for its wildlife, as is the heathland of Winsford Hill and its wild ponies in the surrounding countryside. For a short circular walk from the bridge just follow the orange way marks. There is also a more challenging circular walk from Dulverton to Tarr Steps.
The Tarr steps inn won numerous awards for our fantastic food. You can book a table in our cosy bar and feast on our hearty bar menu or enjoy our more formal restaurant with a full a la carte menu. If the weather is good, we have tables outside in our garden which overlooks Tarr Steps.

Dartmeet

The popular beauty spot of Dartmeet sits near the centre of Dartmoor, about 4 or 5 miles east of Two Bridges. It acts as a meeting point of the two major tributaries of the River Dart which are the East Dart and the West Dart On sunny days in the summer you'll find the shallow section of river full of kids messing around between the rocks in the gentle flow. Canonteign Water Falls

The climb takes no longer than half an hour but it is steep and strenuous. Plenty of resting places are provided, and there’s a lot to see and do on the way up. A slightly quicker and easier route is available on the way down.The climb to Lady Exmouth’s falls takes you on a journey through Canonteign’s past. From the site of the old sawmill you pass Clampitt Falls, named after the brothers who built the original leat diverting water to the millwheel. Through the woods, you’ll emerge to your first sight of the 70 metre waterfall – the highest in the SouthWest – before continuing your climb up through the Secret Garden.

One of the best features of the town is the abundance of independent shops. Quality butchers, bakers, delicatessen and fishmongers are still very much a part of Honiton today, selling locally produced food, and sitting alongside shops with a wide range of goods, including the town’s famous antique shops.
The fine High Street is a noted asset of the town. Wide enough to allow parking on both sides and lined with Georgian buildings, many of which are former coaching inns, it is supplemented by a number of small courtyards and alleyways.
Markets have contributed to the vibrancy and appeal of Honiton since the granting of our charter in 1257.
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday stalls offer a wide variety of products which include fresh produce, flowers and plants, clothing, jewellery, bric-a-brac and antiques.

Fordmore Farm Shop is home to fresh and local West Country food & drink.
We are located on the Honiton road, just outside Cullompton. We produce as much of our produce as possible on our own farms including our endless supply of organic eggs and some vegetables. The rest is provided by local suppliers who, like us, are passionate about great quality food.
We stock vegetables, fruit, dairy, deli, dry goods, bakery goods, chutneys and jams that are all locally sourced and provide us with an array of seasonal goodies.
Our own in-house butcher, who works with the finest meat including grass fed long horn beef, reared to 28-30 months, is on site and ready to talk you through any questions you may have. As well as supplying you with the best cuts of meat, they will also be able to help you with advice on the best way to cook it, or the best cuts for the type of cooking you’re interested in. It could be a great way to get some ideas if you’re thinking of trying something new!

Otter Garden Centre

Otter Garden Centre in Ottery St Mary was the very first Otter garden centre and was established in 1964 as Otter Nurseries. Easily accessed from the A30, this is the largest of our garden centres and many customers like to enjoy a full day out here, shopping our extensive range of products in all our departments and our renowned plants department. Fingle Bridge

If you are looking for a day out on Dartmoor, where you can relax, have a paddle and a picnic, walk the kids and the dog through the woods AND visit some interesting historical buildings, look no further than beautiful Fingle Bridge.
For those who wish to combine a day out in the countryside with a really good pub meal The Fingle Bridge Inn is the venue of your dreams. Choose from the cosy bar, restaurant or terraces and watch the River Teign passing by just feet away.

Tarr Steps

Whether you are an experienced walker or someone who prefers a short stroll, Tarr Steps is a great place to go when looking to explore Exmoor National Park. You can head straight there, utilising the on site car park and toilet facilities, with just a gentle walk down to the ancient clapper bridge. The beautiful wooded valley of the River Barle is also worth exploring for its wildlife, as is the heathland of Winsford Hill and its wild ponies in the surrounding countryside. For a short circular walk from the bridge just follow the orange way marks. There is also a more challenging circular walk from Dulverton to Tarr Steps.
The Tarr steps inn won numerous awards for our fantastic food. You can book a table in our cosy bar and feast on our hearty bar menu or enjoy our more formal restaurant with a full a la carte menu. If the weather is good, we have tables outside in our garden which overlooks Tarr Steps.

Horse riding or long distance run / walk

Easy. Distance 20 miles
At 20 miles this is by far the longest, and probably the most varied route taking in the valleys of the Otter tributaries and the wooded escarpments of the region. Relatively easy riding, with some magnificent lengths of bridleways to the west. There are cantering opportunities especially between Knowles Wood and Blackbororough. Keep strictly to the field edge through the gliding club. There is an unavoidable three-mile road section to the south. Dunkeswell Abbey & The Old Inn at Ashill are worth a detour. This is one of five horse-riding circuits in the Blackdown Hills AONB – route 5
